health care. It also answers other questions about how to do research. Discussion A speech meant to persuade listeners needs to do two things: it needs to present solid reasons
why the listeners should believe what theyre hearing, and it needs to take into account any objections that might be raised, and deal with them. Since there are specific instructions
with this paper, our first task is to use one of the general databases to find three articles that might provide information suitable for the speech. The database is Academic
Search Premier, which provides access to thousands of magazines and, more importantly, journals. (Journals are usually preferred because they are peer reviewed.) The search terms that well start with are
"pro AND con AND universal health care"-actually four terms in one. Depending on the results, it may be necessary to modify the search. The only article that comes up
in this search is from 2000, and discusses the presidential candidates (Al Gore and Bush) health plans. This will not provide sufficient information for the speech. Well drop the "pro
and con" limiter and just search for "universal health care," which should broaden the results dramatically. It does-now we have 304 potential sources; unfortunately, many of them are connected to
the current political campaign, since health care reform is a "hot button" issue. Now it becomes a question of finding those articles that are most helpful; sometimes, an article can
