the integration of some of essential concepts. Specifically, educators must take steps to ensure that students understand the four primary concepts relative to counting: one-to-one correspondence, stable order rule, order irrelevance rule and the cardinality rule. 1. Skill to be measured: Counting objects and using appropriate word tags for items in sequential order from 1-10. 2. Objectives: The objects of this instrument will be to determine if students have acquired the necessary tools for counting objects from 1-10. These include the objectives of one-to-one correspondence, stable order, cardinality and order irrelevance. The following are the specific objectives: a. Given 10 colored items, the student will be able to say the numeric word tag and place an item sequentially on a sheet noting each number. b. Given a varied number of colored items in groups of 10 or less, the student will be able to note the numeric name tag for each item sequentially. c. Given a varied number of colored items in groups of 10 or less, the student will be able to count the total number of items in the group and give the "final answer" response to the question: How many are there? d. Given a group of green, yellow, blue and red blocks, the student will be able to first count the total number, then divide the blocks in groups by color and count the total number again, showing awareness that the number would not change. 3. Development of the Instrument: Each of the subtest sections of the instrument corresponds with one of the four objectives. The student is given a number line with numbers from 1-10. Students are then given 10 green ...
