a number of ways. The literacy rates within a population is an example of a criteria that can be used to gauge a cultures quality of life. So
too is longevity. Even criteria such as the amount of electricity that is consumed per capita can be used to guage quality of life. There are, of course
hundreds of example on both ends of the quality of life spectrum. Interestingly, the utilization of criteria such as those noted above always seems to result in more technologically
advanced cultures weighing out far ahead of less technologically advanced cultures in terms quality of life. Cultures such as those found in Japan and Germany, for example, enjoy not
only greater longevity and a higher literacy rate, they also use more electricity per capita than cultures found in countries like Brazil and Ethiopia.
Obviously, the worlds least developed countries are confronted by many obstacles that play an adverse role in determining the quality of life of those that live there. People
in countries like Ethiopia and Brazil are in need of the most basic of essentials. They need clean water, food, housing and healthcare, needs that are obviously directly related
to things such as longevity. What many fail to realize, however, is that these basic needs are also related to such things as literacy and the per capita consumption
of electricity. Quality of life is in fact directly related to how well you can provide for the needs of yourself and your
