handle such a situation. Discussion Crisis management is what it sounds like: when something goes wrong, it needs to be addressed immediately to limit the damage. This is not "spin"
as in politics, but a quick response to a harmful situation. "Since most crises have short-term and long-term implications, a companys reaction is twofold: responding to the immediate cause of
the crisis and dealing with the after-effects" (Cailteux and Maskin, 2001). A crisis management team should consist of "senior-level executives and operations officials; personnel with scientific, technical and engineering expertise;
and public relations and legal advisors" (Cailteux and Maskin, 2001). Because Power-Up is dealing with a product that is ingested, with at least the potential for accidental death (even if
this is very unlikely), this crisis demands the attention of the company president, Doug Watson; Dr. Marsha Wilding, M.D., a nutritionist and advisor, Zoe Patterson, head of PR; and Marty
Collins, the companys senior legal counsel. The spokesperson for this incident will be Doug Watson. Its fitting that the president should be the one to respond to public concern in
this case, since the potential for a disastrous outcome is present. He can and absolutely should seek advice from Dr. Wilding and other experts about the potential health risks of
the ingredient, but he is the one who should respond. The briefing will be held in the companys largest conference room. Power-Up will provide chairs and tables, pads, pens, water,
power, Internet hook ups and telephone lines. All the members of the crisis team will be present and have cleared their schedules so that they will be available to answer
