The overall event, which occurred when the 21 year old drug addicted boyfriend of a student came onto campus and assaulted the teenage mother, had a negative impact on the health of the principal, the safety of the girl, and the safety of the school environment as a whole. Developing a crisis intervention strategy based on social engineering can resolve many of the major issues related to these events. The foundational elements of this case relate to an event in which a drug addicted assaulted the teenage mother of his child on the front steps of the school. The principal, John, had a history of a cardiac condition and had a previous myocardial infarction that resulted in his need for medical treatment and rehabilitation. Though compliant with initial treatments, John was also advised to improve his lifestyle to reduce the chances of a second event. The dramatic events of the day, then, led John to leave school with chest pains, suggesting the threat of a cardiac event. Other subsequent issues included the lack of safety for the girl, ineffectiveness of police intervention, and the decreasing feeling of safety in the school setting. In each case, the system of social engineering is beneficial because it provides a method for determining the best option. The process requires an evaluation of the problem, including existing and potential threats, and the creation of viable solutions for each of these problems (Seaward, 2006).
