Gacy was a high school dropout; his first job was working in a mortuary in Las Vegas (Nemo, 1997). However, he soon returned home and went to a local business college (1997). At that time, he also began selling shoes (1997).By the time he was 22, he married a woman whose father was the owner of a chain of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Iowa (1997). Gacy was a success at managing his father-in-laws business and he was also a socially active citizen (1997). He even joined the local Jaycees and held office where he received numerous honors (1997). With the exception of living in a dysfunctional home, Gacys life was relatively normal. At least he grew up, got married and worked at a relatively ordinary job. He did not appear to be abnormal or insane. But Gacy would go on to kill at least 33 young males and bury a great deal of them in the crawl space which was underneath his Chicago home (Nemo, 1997). During this ten year stint, where he killed these young men, an early incident sent Gacy to prison for molesting a teenager and then his wife divorced him (1997). After he served a short prison sentence he returned to Chicago and became a cook but later opened a construction and remodeling business (1997). He had also became involved in local politics (1997).
