it offers a digitized form of "Reefer Madness." Juvenile Justice Court The juvenile court system of Connecticut is similar to those of other
states in terms of its operation and goals. That system seeks to operate under the principles of restorative justice; provide community protection; require offender accountability; and provide rehabilitation for
the delinquent child (Juvenile Justice System, 2005). These items constitute the purpose of the juvenile justice system. This collective purpose is similar
to that of the adult criminal court, and may even be identical in those locations that focus on restorative justice. There can be wide variation where the goals of
sentencing include retribution or deterrence, however. Adult criminals are more likely to face an array of possible approaches to sentencing, whereas juveniles are more likely to face an array
of options within the single category of restorative justice. The structure of the juvenile court differs from adult court in that proceedings generally
are not public for any reason, and the judge is able to behave less formally with the juvenile than with the adult criminal. Introduction into the court system is
initiated by the police, who have more freedom and a wider range of choices in how to proceed when dealing with a juvenile than with an adult.
Operation of the juvenile court also is not as formal as in the adult court. Its proceedings are serious and carry many of the same
