In terms of criminal investigations, it is the duty of the police to investigate each and every domestic violence accusation which they receive. Too many women and children have died as a result of an abuser who got too brutal and finally ended up killing one of his victims. The good news is that police do typically follow through on these cases and make an extraordinary number of arrests each year. Also, there is more good news in terms of new laws which are being enacted and which are tougher on the abusers. Every year women die at the hands of their abusers and these new laws are designed to help protect the victims as much as possible. For example, women now have an easier time getting restraining orders and, in the case of Massachusetts which is very progressive in this area, the victim can get a restraining order in less than 24 hours - even when the courts are closed. So, despite the fact that this tragedy continues to happen all over this country on a regular basis, the good news is that many concerned people are trying very hard to fix the system. And, it is through their hard work that real changes are being made and effectively helping make a difference in peoples lives.
