especially since 9/11, there has been a great deal of Western talk concerning the oppression of Muslim or Middle Eastern women. In many ways it is argued that their particular
dress, the practice of covering up almost every inch of body, is illustrative of their oppressed position. But, there are just as many who argue that their dress style actually
liberates them, especially from fashion, and allows them a sense of pride. It is also a form of dress that generally indicates a woman is respected, and she respects herself.
In the United States the style of dress seems to be almost the opposite for if a woman respects herself she is not necessarily against baring a great deal of
skin in what she wears. In short, it is a very complicated topic and one that goes deep into the different cultures of the Western United States and the Middle
East which is generally very reliant on religious and cultural ideals. In discussing these two different female cultures there is also the
existence of crimes against women. As noted previously, it is often said that a Middle Eastern womans dress indicates she is oppressed in society, which would perhaps also translate to
a reality, or a society, wherein women were taken advantage of and often victims of crimes, primarily sexual crimes. In the United States it is often assumed that what a
woman wears can lead to the enticement of a criminals attention and actions. Again, this particular aspect of sociology as well as feminism, is a very intricate and complex one.
