United States and Russia compare in crime statistics. THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT In comparing crime between Russia and the United States, one could easily compare the numbers by statistics alone
but this would not give the entire picture. In order to accurately determine how Russia crime compares with that of the United States, it is necessary to look into
the type of crimes that are committed, why they are committed, and who they are committed against as well as who the major criminal element is. In the United States
violence is on the rise, even though some statistics will tell us just the opposite. The fact is that statistical information can be swayed to become any percentage that
is deemed acceptable; not to purposely deceive, but simply by looking at only certain records and omitting others. In this way it might look like homicide is becoming less
prevalent when in reality that might show only part of the picture. For this reason this paper will focus on what types are being committed and why, rather than
comparing pages of numbers that are in essence meaningless. TYPES OF CRIME IN EACH COUNTRY Research reveals that Russia is much more focused and enmeshed in organized crime.
While the United States certainly has the tentacles of organized crime wound tightly around nearly every of the fifty states, Russia is much more entrenched in the Mafia than the
