problems with absenteeism are increasingly gaining attention. Overall, our schools are going through some powerfully negative times. A would be expected, there are many possible causes for the increase in
problems. Many may argue that the increase in single parent families are part of the problem. Others may argue that our society is more accepting of many things, and children
no longer understand the importance of education. There are also those who would argue that too many children are left to grow up on their own as parents work 40
hours a week. In addition, we find that many argue that the school systems themselves do nothing, or next to nothing, to really stop the problems that are occurring. Bearing
these possibilities in mind, the following paper examines the condition of violence and deviancy and also discusses the environment of schools, examining whether the essential structure of the schools is
partially to blame for such violence and deviancy. Crime, Deviancy, and the Organizational Aspects of Our Schools In all honesty it seems that many schools are in
position where they are more concerned with making money than they are with the education of the children. Students can sense such a perspective, and as such will act accordingly.
As two authors note, "Until we make schools engaging learning communities whose members value those communities and feel welcome within them, we are right to think that the next Columbine
could happen anywhere" (Raywid; Oshiyama, 2000; p. 444). In a personal experience of this writer there was a time when this writers son was 16 and completely dissatisfied with the
