sure. At least, it is uncertain as to who performed the abortion for Karen, but as the story unfolds, the last days of her life begin to emerge. The smoke
begins to clear, and an interesting story comes forth. Abortion and its legality is the main theme of Michael Crichtons book A Case of Need. The main theme and
authors position is exemplified by the following sentence: "Morality must keep up with technology, because if a person is faced with the choice of being moral and dead or immoral
and alive, theyll choose life every time" (Crichton 31). This is the ethical view of Crichton, put forth in a time when abortion was illegal. This was written several years
before Roe v. Wade would change everything. Still, it was the swinging sixties and the start of another "sexual revolution." Yet, during the sixties, feminism would also rise at the
same time, so the idea of sex without consequences seemed to be a womans issue. This is Michael Crichton s very first novel. He would go on to not
only write other, more compelling best selling novels, but he would also become involved in television series along the same thematic lines. A medical doctor by profession, this author is
able to relay information on topics that the ordinary novelist could not. Like Grisham is able to provide true life courtroom dramas for the general public because he is a
lawyer, Crichton is able to do this with hospitals because he is a doctor. Crichton is also a talented writer which is evidenced by the many books he has written.
