knowledge of credit control aspects is more limited in many developing nations, such as Ghana. If we look at a country such as Ghana and credit control we may get
a good picture of the macro environment and the way this may impact on small retail businesses with the use of an analysis model. In this instance we will use
Porters five forces model. 2. Analysis of the Industry Traditionally a Porters Five Forces model will be used to analysis the competitive environment in a single industry. However in this
paper there is a narrower approach used, but the model may be seen as equally appropriate. If we look at Ghana and the way credit control is used by small
retail businesses we can compare this to the UK. 2.1 Ghana In understanding these external forces the business manager will be better
placed to deal with them when they come to play. The five forces Porter identifies are the existing competitors, the threat of new entrants, substitute products (or services), and the
power of purchasers and suppliers. Porter does not see these external factors as working alone, they act in relationship to each other,
and can also be influenced by the organisation(s) which the effect, in understanding them the organisation is in the best position to influence them.
