goes on to discuss problem solving and decision making. The next section focuses on bringing the topics of public speaking, creativity, systems theory, and problem solving together. The essay ends
with a summary and conclusions. The essay does not spend a great deal of time on the achievement levels of African American students although it does briefly comment on this
subject. The essay does not provide any lesson plans for teaching public speaking although it does provide a few tips. It does not provide any comparisons between African American students
and other students in terms of their public speaking skills. And, while illustrations could have been used to demonstrate how the topics overlap, space was devoted instead to more narrative
discussions. Creativity Different theorists have described creativity in slightly different ways. Many have also presented definitions for creativity. The one that makes the most sense to this
writer comes from Edgar and colleagues (2008) who say: "creativity is not the ability to create out of nothing, but the ability to generate new ideas by combining, changing or
reapplying existing ideas" (p. 46). Creative thinking is about putting a new twist on something but it will always involve the knowledge a person already possesses about that something (Wynder,
2007). More specifically, to be creative and solve problems, the individual needs to have some domain knowledge (Wynder, 2007). In other words, they need to know something about the
