Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 5 page research paper that reports on the debate evolutionists and creationists. Evolutionists look to the theories of Charles Darwin to explain life on earth, who postulated that the complex ecological systems of the natural world evolved from simple one-celled organisms over the eons of geological time. Creationists, on the other hand, argue that the evidence behind Darwinism is faulty and this group, in general, supports the version of Creation offered by Judeo-Christian tradition in the Book of Genesis. Creationist groups have argued that creationism should be presented along side Darwinism in the nation's public schools. The writer focuses on the arguments that justify the creationist point of view. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Creationism, as it exists today, consists of two basic camps. There are the traditionalists who believe in a "young" earth, i.e. that the geologists are wrong and the earth
is actually around 10,000 years old instead of millions of years old. However, the most successful attempts at introducing creationism in the public school science curriculum has been accomplished by
creationists who simply posit a "theory of intelligent design" (George 843). This theory is not based on any specific religious philosophy, but simply on the observation that the "world and
its creatures are far too complex to have arisen through random patterns of evolution and must be the product of some intelligent design" (George 843). This position has gained
in popularity even among the scientifically-minded, because it is much more compatible with current scientific discoveries and thinking then the more traditional views on creationism. The intelligent-design hypothesis (ID) has
also recently gained public attention because of a science textbook, Of Pandas and People, that incorporates this approach (George 843). This text has been adopted by many communities (George 843).
In fact a Gallup poll conducted last year revealed that half of all Americans believe that "God created man pretty much in his present form at one time within
the last 10,000 years" (Moore 17). This position contrasts sharply with those who believe that "Man developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life," and this latter
