meaning if a specific set of actual events occur (1995). Sentences unable to be verified are essentially meaningless (1995). Those who support these principles are often men of science (1995).
Thus, scientists who are used to having specific proofs, as opposed to vague ideas, are comfortable in the positivist camp. Several men in recent times have been equated
with logical positivism, but questions surface as to their actual ideology being consistent with such a philosophy or not. Stephen Jay Gould is one of those men. In his book
Rock of Ages, he provides the reader with a long example to explain his position. He confronts a biblical story and explains that he told the tale of the two
Thomases in order to highlight the distinctions between two different, but equally vital material (Gould, 1995). He goes on to say that one must not assume that a book, even
the Bible, defines a magisterium (1995). He elaborates that instead, people must look to the subject, the logic, and the particular arguments (Gould, 1995). Goulds overall logic defends
Darwin while suggesting that biblical scholars attack the scientist and the scenario has never been the other way around (1995). Indeed, there is a philosophy that allows both theories to
coexist. That of course is not exactly what Gould is saying. However, he does try to reconcile religion and since, something not easy to do. Gould would fit into
the logical positivist camp, although not in the pure sense. One can say that he is an original thinker, and fits there perhaps more than anywhere else. However, he has
