St. Marys Health System is the current organization that has grown from a single hospital founded by the Catholic diocese for the state of Tennessee. The hospital opened
in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1930 (History, n.d.). Today the hospital is a 498-bed medical center with extensive ancillary services and is known as St. Marys Medical Center.
In recent years the focus of the health system that has grown from the single original hospital has been treatment; for some time it has
increased its focus on wellness, prevention and health promotion. As the local population has grown away from the vicinity of the campus of the original hospital, St. Marys has
expanded into other parts of the county, placing smaller hospitals in areas of high population growth. In the northern portion of the county it has constructed a complex containing
a satellite hospital, cancer treatment center, orthopedic treatment center and a health and fitness center. The fitness center is open to any seeking a membership, which is billed on
a monthly basis and requires no membership commitment beyond an initial 90 days. For all of St. Marys rich history and reliance on
state-of-the-art treatment in various areas of health care, its information system for its fitness center is woefully lacking from the customer perspective. Systems for membership and finance are extensive
and quite useful for staff, but it is virtually nonexistent for customers and those seeking to track progress. The purpose here is to devise an information system that will
