In order to survive there have been several cost cutting measures, first 100 employees were laid off, then the 150 of the employees that remained took a pay cut, but this was still insufficient and a further 65 job losses followed within a period of a month. The long term result of these changes and layoffs has been a negative impact on morale. For a firm seeking to recover the value that is created by the employee input, in terms of creative thinking, innovation and high productivity levels may be the difference between success and failure. However, with employees that have seen three waves of cost cutting with colleagues loosing jobs and pay cuts, it is understandable that they may be fearful of more cuts. Furthermore, it does not appear that there were any policies or strategies out in placer to protect the employees that remained, or even appreciation given to the impact that the losses and cuts may have had on the surviving employees. In order to improve employee performance there is a need to protect the present employees and help deal with the stressful environment, to increase motivation levels, to create teams and develop a high trust environment. The first stage is to assess the potential problems that exist to ensure that the remedies that are out into place will address the required issues, the current issues and concerns need to be dealt with before the organization can move forward. 2.
