to not only appear to be good in the eyes of the public, but actually foster and support ethical choices, should have an ethics policy. In developing such as policy,
it is important to look at how management wants the world to look like, and not just how others say that things are ("Business Ethics, " 2007). Ethical standards should
be higher than the status quo. If everyone is taking supplies home, that is not a reason to overlook such things. Such an activity is actually stealing. Hence, some company
cultures need to reevaluate policy and what is actually going on and then develop a policy that not only everyone can live with, but is positive and forward thinking.
Vicki Gerson (2004) says that ethical behavior must start at the top. Employees should be motivated by those in high places and creating an ethics code is one thing, but
specific actions will go far to create an ethical workplace (Gerson, 2004). An example of what managers can do is to hold staff meetings simply to discuss ethics (Gerson, 2004).
Ethics audits should be conducted periodically (Gerson, 2004). Another practical piece of advice is as follows: "Always make it easy for your employees to act ethically. Set an example. Encourage
them and support their ethical decisions and activities. When choices come up in day-to-day dealings with customers, always choose honesty, even if it means making a little less money on
