University several years ago (Sacton 1994). The problem of not listening was addressed. Covey resolved the problem by requiring a speaker to repeat what the previous speaker had said during
meetings he was a part of; this is a simple but effective solution (1994). Indeed, the solution to lifes problems are simpler than they may appear to someone who is
entrenched in lifes dismal scenarios--divorce, bankruptcy, loss of a job, loss of a child--even when there seems to be no hope. While Covey does provide ideas for how to cope
with lifes most difficult problems, what he also gives to his readers is a process by which people can fundamentally achieve a paradigm shift, or a new way of looking
at life. This is true even if someone appears to be relatively happy. Covey (1990) begins his now well known work The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by speaking
of individuals who have attained financial and career success but find that their lives are lacking on the home front. In fact, many well to do executives find that they
spend less and less time at home as workplaces have become more and more demanding. It does seem to be the case that monetary success comes with a price and
in the end, it is said that people never regret spending too much time with the family, but they do regret spending too much time working. Their regrets generally go
to the fact that they spend too little time enjoying life. Covey hopes to mend these problems as he addresses such concerns of successful businessmen who find they lack time
