a negative picture of black males in general, the media seems to turn its attention to the negative aspects of black males even when they are celebrities. Perhaps an exception
to the rule is with the current president, Barack Obama, a mulatto male who rose to stardom on the political circuit and is now the President of the United
States. While it may be true that on some level, black male celebrities are idolized, they are often torn down in time. It is like waiting for the other shoe
to drop. No one is a better example of this than OJ Simpson. He was tried and convicted by media long before his televised trial began. The idea that
a strong, black man would kill a white woman--albeit his ex-wife--and her white male friend, was simply so tantalizing, the media coverage was relentless. In the end, OJ Simpson was
not convicted. In fact, under the law, he was a free man. Yet, the media villainies this ex-football hero so much, no one believes he is innocent. OJ Simpson jokes
abound and the media blames the injustice on the retention of a "dream team" of attorneys. Today, Simpson sits in prison for a relatively minor misunderstanding that in the context
of his rough neighborhood might have happened to anyone else. Because it is OJ Simpson, any brush with the law or rumor of violence makes headlines. Michael Jackson has succumbed
to the same fate. No one knows what is the true story behind the tales weaved by media, but for the most part, these two men are viewed as the
