that average looking people - least of all women - could ever fit that description. This severe modification addresses American history in that the overall representation of serial killers
has changed to the point that anybodys next door neighbor might very well be the countrys next mass murderer. The program also addresses how the residual impact of ones upbringing
has much more influence upon that individual than many realize. That people are a product of their environment - both good and bad - speaks to the tremendous power
ones experiences in childhood and youth have upon ones social, emotional and psychological outlook. Wuornos reflects the aftermath of a wholly traumatic upbringing, replete with physical abuse and emotional
abandonment that ultimately fueled her deep-seated rage in the form of mass murder. In cases of childhood abuse like what Wuornos experienced, the normal stages of maturation are severely interrupted.
The identity development is stunted as the child becomes confused and disoriented as to self-worth and at times emotional maturation is placed at a standstill when abuse has occurred.
There can certainly be no argument surrounding the fact that family dynamics -- which represent the interactive patterns between members, as well as the manner in which the family
functions together - are significantly influential with regard to childhood psychological development. It becomes painfully obvious after watching the program that Wuornos hit the proverbial jackpot of dysfunctional families.
