Countrywide is having difficulty providing even adequate customer service; the program suggested for that company is that it reward word-of-mouth referrals with the payment of a mortgage payment or interest payment for an existing customer who refers someone who is approved for and completes a mortgage. The home mortgage business has been booming in the low-interest rate environment that has existed since the post-9/11 recession in 2001. The low rates provide incentive for homeowners and
potential homeowners, because they stand to save thousands over the course of a home mortgage loan when they secure a lower interest rate. Mortgage originators have profited well too,
in that they make their money by processing loans. Ameriquest and Countrywide are two leading mortgage companies that also have a strong Internet presence. The purpose here is
to review the websites of each and to recommend a new program for one of the companies. Ameriquest Mortgage Company Ameriquests main page
is clean and attractive, and it places its "Get a Loan" information box in a place of prominence on the page. It also places its telephone number at the
top of the page in large type where it is easy to find and see, rather than burying it several layers down in a series of "Contact Us" pages as
so many other companies do. It also provides a list of links to various calculators useful to customers in a variety of situations, though curiously not that in which
a potential customer may be evaluating how much mortgage s/he can afford. Available calculators target individuals seeking to consolidate debt; pay off their mortgages before retirement; and refinance and
receive cash back. It also provides a calculator that promises to demonstrate the true cost of credit card debt. There is a calculator addressing the issue of how
much mortgage an individual can afford based on personal circumstances, but curiously, Ameriquest has chosen to place that within pages for current customers, which require a customer number and password
