Faith, by definition, is belief in something, or someone, for which there can be no demonstrable proof. Examples include belief in
the afterlife, belief that justice will eventually be served, and belief in reincarnation. Belief in a deity is also a concept in which definite proof has been elusive, however, that
has not stopped philosophers and theologians from attempting to find proof for the existence of God. This is found, to a large degree, in the Judaic-Christian concept of God, where
the creation of the world by a supreme being is believed to come into existence out of nothing. One such logical argument for Gods existence is known as the cosmological
argument. This reasoning goes as follows: Every single event must have a cause for that event. If humans trace back, that is, look for a cause behind a cause,
there must be a first cause. The other possibility, that there was an event that was not caused, is logically absurd, since, by its own definition, an event must have
causation. Therefore, if one substitutes the word "God" for "first cause," there is an argument for Gods existence. To put the argument in other words, the world as a whole
