even our countries. According to the 2009 Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI), the majority of the 180 countries that were surveyed ranked below 5 on a scale
of 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 10 (perceived to be less corrupt) (Staebrok, 2009). Interestingly, Muslim majority countries seem to always rank among the worse countries in
the world in terms of corruption (Beekun, 2009). Beekun (2009) observes that this is true "in spite of Islams continuous emphasis on ethical behavior in business and other walks
of life". That contention will be explored more fully below with a consideration as well as how women play into this equation. In contrast to the most corrupt
countries in the world, of course, are the least corrupt. With a score of 9.4, New Zealand earned the top ranking on the 2009 Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception
Index (CPI) (Staebrok, 2009). She is perceived as being the least corrupt country in the world. She is joined by Denmark ( with a score of 9.3), Singapore
(9.2), Sweden (9.2) and Switzerland (9.0) as being the five least corrupt countries in the world (Staebrok, 2009). On the other end of the scale, of course, are the
most corrupt countries. These include most, if not all, Muslim-majority countries! Somalia and Iraq are at the extreme end of the scale (respectively ranking 1.3 and 1.1) but even
much higher ranking Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia (with a rank of 4.3) are still definitely perceived more corrupt than many of the worlds other non-Muslim countries. One
