A 5 page paper discussing corruption in the church. this is a condition that has been with church since the beginning of religion, yet is receiving more attention today, than it did in the past, due to the media. Examples of three individuals from the past are illustrathed. In one example we use Cardinal Richelieu who was a man of great influence during the early 1600’s. In another example taken from nearly fifty years ago, we examine a priest who was accused of sexual molestation but not discovered for many years aftherwards. And in the last example we illustrathe Jim Bakker who was a television evangelist who essentially lied to his followers and stole much of the money donated to his cause. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

tempting for certain types of individuals. The corruption of an individual can come in many different forms. Sometimes the religious leader may use his, or her, power to obtain vast
sums of money, or sometimes they may use that power to change the course of history, or religion, for their own satisfaction, completely disregarding any element of God and truth.
Whatever the reason behind the corruption, one thing is clear, and that is the fact that we are much more aware of such corruption today than we were in the
past due to the media and our growing wisdom as a result of such media involvement. In examining the issues of corruption we first take a look at a religious
figure from the distant past. Cardinal Richelieu was a man who was incredibly powerful. He served in his religious duties in the early 1600s and his reign saw great changes
due to his use of power. Many books will tell of the great deeds he did in France, yet it is common knowledge that he was a corrupt individual who
would do anything in order to attain his end desire. He used his religious influence to obtain these changes, and many, if not most, of these changes had little to
do with religion, God, or truth. Richelieu was known for stepping outside the religious boundaries commonly defined within his day and age and was often known for his completely
unorthodox involvement of the Catholic Church in political affairs (Wilkinson). He was responsible for the development of the French navy and other military organizations. He was a man who would
do anything for the country and often did so at the cost of the church, heavily using his power to obtain what he desired. Why was nothing done about him
