It has been convincingly demonstrated that environmental stimulation early in life can influence brain development and function. Such effect is at least in part due to the activation of the various sensory pathways, which occurs during environmental stimulation...The kind of stimulation has been shown to help in recovering developing organisms suffering from brain- and behavior-impairing conditions, as, for example, malnutrition (Karina Do Monte-Silva et al, 2007, p. 187). II. INFANTS, ADOLESCENTS & THE ELDERLY The cause and effect relationship between nutritional deficiencies and psychological disorders has been well established through scientific research, so it is not surprising to find how poor nourishment lends itself to depression. One of the most prevalent dietary issues related to depression is a mothers inability to provide enough nutritional sustenance to her infant; without the necessary caloric and dietary requirements, babies are all too often left without the means for proper growth/development and ultimately fail to thrive (Karina Do Monte-Silva et al, 2007).
