very powerful controversy that touches people in many ways, and pushes people to really examine various perspectives concerning the death penalty. There are those who are strongly on one side
or another, but for the most part it is a very intricate and complex topic that has many people perplexed at the very least. With that in mind the following
paper presents both sides, the solid sides, to this controversial issue. The paper first discusses the pros and then the cons concerning the death penalty. Controversy: Death Penalty:
Pros There are many people who believe in the old adage of an "eye for eye" which essentially means that if someone kills another person they should be subject to
death as well. For the most part the society does not follow this rule, although some people use this as a foundation for arguing for the death penalty. At the
same time, it is likely the root of ideals concerning proponents of the death penalty. In most cases the death penalty is reserved, where it is used, for extreme murders.
As an example of what is deemed worthy of the death penalty, as it involves the state of Wisconsin, one referendum claims that the death penalty should be accepted
in "cases involving a person who is convicted of multiple first-degree intentional homicides, if the homicides are vicious and the convictions are supported by DNA evidence" (Pribek, 2007; NA). In
another state, Florida, a man was put to death: "Last October, the state of Florida executed a 52-year-old serial killer and rapist named Danny Rolling. In 1990, Rolling brutally murdered
five female college students in Gainesville--decapitating one of them and putting her head on a bookshelf--during a three-day rampage that shocked and terrorized the city" (Liptak, 2007; 10). This
