of all medical costs, and the correct use of prescriptions drugs and treatments may result in lower downstream healthcare costs. However there are also pressures to reduce the level of
spending in an area where there is the need or desire to reduce costs. Medical care has many demands. The way demands are made may also be complex, as
there is an opportunity cost to ay treatment, for many drugs that are optional, or required due to self inflicted conditions or those which do not create harm
The need to cut costs places pressure on other areas of the health services as well. However, , cutting cists is also difficult a despite
the pressure to cut costs there are also demands placed on the health services to increase care provisions, to increase standards and to make use of the new knowledge that
emerges regularly, with new methods of diagnosis and treatment. When new treatments become available they are initially very expensive. Drug companies undertake
