us lift up our hearts to God while they also exalt Jesus Christ (OConnor 2012). Some of the first Christian hymn writers wrote thousands of hymns. Having written some where
between 7,500 hymns, 4,500 of which were published,, Charles Wesley (1707-1788) was the most prolific hymn writer (Smith Creek Music 2004). This was remarkable because he did not begin writing
until after he had a religious conversion in 1738. His hymns tend to reflect Moravian influence and Armenian theology. On the first anniversary of his conversion, Wesley wrote, O for
a thousand tongues to sing. His jubilance is reflected in his lyrics "On this glad day the glorious Sun of Righteousness arose" (Wesley 2007). This hymn can help new-Christians express
their love and joy and remind present Christians of the joy of worshiping Jesus. O For a Heart to Praise my God was written in 1742 (Wesley 2007). This hymn
is based on Psalm 51:10 (Wesley 2007). The theme is similar in that it acknowledge the sacrifice of Christ and asks Jesus to impart love. Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
was published in 1747. The influence of specific Scripture is clear in this hymn and many consider this to be among some of the best texts Wesley wrote. This hymn
