was already obsolete (Minasi, 2001). Nevertheless, NT software developers expressed their unwavering "commitment to high-quality, bug-free software," and by the late 1990s, the impressive NT 4.0 Workstation packages were
becoming permanent fixtures in businesses, both large and small (Minasi, 2001, p. 7). NT 4.0 had successfully fixed the bugs that plagued Windows 95 and Windows 98, but soon
evolved into what was supposed to become known as Windows NT 5.0. Apparently, for marketing reasons, the name was changed to reflect the new century and was dubbed Windows
2000 (also known as Windows 2000 Professional). The finished product far exceeded expectations, and was not simply an extension of Windows NT 4.0 (Minasi, 2001). It had a
unique personality that was distinctively its own. First, while it retains the functionality of NT 4.0, Windows 2000 has been significantly "retooled," so to speak, which has not simply
been a matter of shifting tools to different locations (Minasi, 2001). It has substantially relaxed the rigid structural barriers imposed by the NT 4.0 system, without sacrificing security measures
in the process. The splash screen for Windows 2000 says, "Built on NT technology" as if to reassure the skeptics who are hesitant to make a change from NT 4.0
