Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 5 page paper answers at two UK contract law questions. The first is a situation where an offer is made by letter, and accepted by letter. Before the acceptance is received there is the attempt to revoke the offer. This question concerns the requirements for a valid contract to exist and the application of the postal rule. The second question looks at a rail company that offer a reward for the reporting of vandals that results in a conviction. The person that reports the vandals was not aware of this offer. The paper considers if they are entitled to the reward under contract law. Relevent case law is cited in each case. The bibliography cites 4 sources.

individually. Question 1 A contact needs to have certain requirements before any form of agreement is deemed to be valid and
thereby enforceable, there has to be an offer by one faction or party with an acceptance of the offer by another party, this is known as these are offer, acceptance
consideration and the intent to create legal relations (Barker and Padfield, 1994). Therefore, contract is in the traditional view an agreement that
requires an identification of a valid offer and a valid acceptance and of there is a withdrawal of the offer this needs t take place before there is acceptance.
Looking at the case supplied by the student all contact is by letter. Armidale Wool Ltd offers to sell 200 car seat covers at a reduce price by the 1st
of July. Although we may argue this is an inveitation to treat there are such details in the letter that this is likely to be seen as an offer. Here
there is a complete offer, including terms. The letter is posted on the 20th of June and arrives on 22nd June. This is a valid offer. On the 22st June
there is an acceptance. There can be no doubt that is an acceptance as it is an unequivocal acceptance of the terms in the original offer. Had there been any
changes made, this would have then been a counter offer and invalidated the original offer, meaning that Armidale Wool Ltd would have to accept this to form the contract.
The consideration is the price to be paid for the seat covers and there is an obvious intention to create legal relations. Therefore, this appears to be a valid contract.
