society of peoples without some change. And, in many instances the change is, sometimes necessarily so, incredibly drastic. In addition, it seems that no matter how drastically a society changes,
some things remain strong and true, providing a sense of continuity. The following paper examines the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution as they involve change, and social classes and
social traditions and patterns as they involve continuity. The French Revolution France had remained in a particular frame of a political structure for a long time and although change
came here and there, it was never drastic change. The people, most of them in fact, were becoming incredibly fed up with the ultimate power of the monarchy they lived
beneath. As one author notes, "The tensions generated by the clash of continuity and change were so great in France that festering opposition could only explode into revolt" (Sparknotes, 2004).
And, it was that revolt that transformed France and the future of France. With the revolution in France many of the old customs were tossed aside. There was now
more freedom in relationship to religious faiths, practices, and worships, and this change " abolished all special activities and privileges of the Catholic Church. We also note that "After the
war between France and Austria and Prussia, prices increased dramatically, and food shortages occurred" (Analysis of the French Revolution, 2004). The, between 1789 and 1794, more change was seen
that affected the actual lifestyle of the people. These changes involved many things, including art and clothing. "The monarchies were gone, and the king no longer ruled. The National Convention
