and Buchanan, 2003; Iles and Salaman, 1995). The main objective or recruitment selection is to identify the most suitable candidates by assessing those who are most likely to added
the greatest amount of value to the firm over a period of time (Lievens et al, 2002). The way this has been achieved has varied upon the type of position
that is being filled, the industry and the labor market conditions. Many contemporary recruitment procedures reflect these variants and the core aim or personnel selection (Lievens et al, 2002).
One of the main stream, approaches that was seen in the past was to try and ensure that the pool of candidates was a large as possible so that there
was a large choice which, it was theorized, should help to ensure a good range of quality candidates and reduce the risk of hiring a poor candidate (Lievens et al,
2002). This was an approach that would benefit from the presence of a large and abundant labor pool (Lievens et al, 2002). The problem with this style of recuitment, which
is still pursued, is that the labor market is changing, there may not always be the potential for an abundant number of applicants, there may be labor shortages, either generally,
or there may be labor shortages in specific skill areas (Cascio, 1999). The process is also based on the idea that candidates offered jobs would usually accept them. If this
