This 24 page paper examines contemporary Egyptian art from a global perspective, including looking at the work of artists such as Abdel Wahab Abdel Mohsen and Mostafa Abdel Moity. The papr starts by looking at the influence of the west on these artists, including the influence of the minimalism and abstract styles. The art is also examined in terms of the elements that reflect local traditions and cultures and the influence of locality on the content, composition and style of contemporary Egyptian art including influences such as culture and Islam. The last part of the paper goes on to discuss how artistic value may be assessed and how contemporary art works may be historicized. The bibliography cites 9 sources.
