Colwyn Griffith and Susan Bozic should prepare themselves for photragic work that steps outside the expectations of mainstream art. Griffith and Bozic use photograph both as a fine art
and as social commentary. Their comments are much the same but they use a slightly different artistic twist to communicate them. Both Griffith and Bozic have a distaste
for the commercialism and distorted realism that typify our contemporary society. They use their photography to express that distaste. On the surface,
Griffiths "Empire Projects" appear to be landscape shots of some of Canadas more popular tourist attractions and other world icons (Sandals, 2007). On closer inspection, however, the viewer discovers
a strange familiarity with the photo components, an intimate familiarity in fact as though the viewer has had a much more personal interaction with those components than they would with
say a tree or a waterfall. The reason for this sensation is that Griffiths "landscapes" are actually staged. They are fabricated from a variety of food materials.
Trees, the viewer recognizes are pretzels and other representatives of the junk food family are used to fabricate one component or another of the sets that are then used to
produce the photos in Griffiths "Empire Projects". Griffith isnt the only artist whose work astounds the viewer in the current exhibition. Bozics
approach is just as innovative and just as creative. She too fabricates her shots quite carefully using unexpected components. In "The Dating Portfolio" she uses a male mannequin
to present the illusion that she is on a grand and glorious date. In "Incarnation" she uses taxidermy mounts of animals coupled with all of many finery to present
