to not only attract new customers but retain the ones they get. It is their intentions to build a relationship with their customers so these individuals will turn to them
when they need something and inevitably spend their money in their stores. In order to build this relationship, they must attempt to gather some personal information from the customer. This
can be extremely difficult because with the number of scams out there today and identity theft at an all-time high, customers are extremely reluctant to give out any personal information
especially to third parties which are often times retained by these corporations to store this information. Retailers also believe that this information can be used to reduce expenses because they
can target the markets they have in their database rather than sending out blind mailers and anonymous newsletters. There is no question that this is a smart business maneuver to
store personal information of past and potential clients, but some privacy advocates question whether the gathering of personal information hurts the consumer. In fact, some go further by arguing that
the consumer has to pay for this privacy because the company is charging higher prices for their goods and services in order to collect and retain this data. In my
