1997). Von Glasersfeld said that constructivism is "a theory of knowledge with roots in philosophy, psychology and cybernetics. In the constructivist perspective, knowledge is constructed by the individual through
his interactions with his environment" (Murphy, 1997). Constructivist pedagogy and research is based major theorists in education, including John Dewey, Jean Piaget Jerome Bruner, David Ausubel and Lev Vygotsky (Houghton
Mifflin Company, nd). These well-known individuals each offered different social and cognitive learning philosophies and theories that have led to the development of the constructivist model (Mercer and Gordon, 1994).
