Constructivism essentially involves how people construct their perceptions as they learn, how their environment plays a large part, and how everyones perceptions are unique. As one author notes, "Constructivism emphasizes
the importance of the knowledge, beliefs, and skills an individual brings to the experience of learning" (Epstein, 2007). The following paper examines the work and theories of Jean Piaget and
George Kelly concerning Constructivism. Constructivism: Piaget As mentioned, there are many different forms that constructivism can take in relationship to various
theories. Piaget was involved in what was known as cognitive constructivism. "Piagets theory has two major parts: an ages and stages, which predicts what children can and cannot understand at
different ages, and a theory of development that describes how children develop cognitive abilities" (Epstein, 2007). In these theories he argued that the individual had the ability to "constructing itself"
(Otte, 1998). Piaget was born in Switzerland in 1896 and essentially spent his life searching for the way in which knowledge grows (Silverthorn,
1999). "He is known as a foundational thinker because he tried to go beyond existing biases and stereotypes to reveal a unique concept of cognition" (Schumaker, 1996; 48). He believed
