of or recycle goods and services (Murnane, 2008). Thorstein Veblen coined the phrase "conspicuous consumption" over a hundred years ago indicating that this term refers to devoting large amounts of
income to purchasing expensive items whose principal purpose is to act of displays of wealth ("Inconspicuous," 2005). An associated meaning of conspicuous consumption is that failing to spend lavishly on
consumer items connotes inferiority and a lower social status ("Inconspicuous," 2005). The student researching this topic is encouraged to offer a personal answer to the next assignment questions. As for
this writer/tutor, trying to convey higher social status has no influence on purchasing decisions. I would like to own an electric car, not because of the conspicuous consumption ethos, but
