vicarious consumption of some servant classes. The consumption of goods and the relationship to class may be seen in all consumer goods, from food to furniture (Veblen, 1902). Differentiation in
consumption appears to be seen as the evolution form economic differentiation and is argued as an aspect of a predatory culture (Veblen, 1902). Conspicuous consumption was therefore a conspicuous waste
of resources to demonstrate wealth. In the past consumption is seen as mostly by the men consuming the work of the women, with
the consumption of the women being incidental to other work required to continue the work. In these past cultures the unproductive consumption of goods was a show of power (Veblen,
1902). Those who would consume the choice food items or had the rarer or beautiful articles where inevitably those with the power (Veblen, 1902). In modern society the unproductive consumption
is also a class indicator, and although the actual practice has become more based in custom, there is still metal models of differentiation in the way this consumption is undertaken
and is perceived and beauty is still seen as a commodity to be consumed. . If we look at the way that
conspicuous consumption today and in the past there is still an element of class differentiation in the way that this takes place, but this is reflecting the existing economic differentiation
and has become a mental model that impacts in the way certain values manifest and are displayed or as Veblen phrases it are shown though the ; habits of
