the firm of the handheld computing devices, the first was the Zoomer. This started Palm on the core strategy that has been maintained, research and development. The initial Zoomer was
designed by Palm, manufactured by Tandy and distributed by Casio. The focus was in the design and innovation. The initial Zoomer product failed, but the development of synchronization software which
was licensed to HP not only enabled the company to survive but guided it to the core competences that established the firm. The hardware saw success with the
well known Palm Pilot, the palm pilot was a highly differentiated product that was able to compete effectively in the PDA market and the Palm pilot was able to gain
and leveredge the first mover advantage on mobile computing, providing the ability of users to access and use data. This was done in the provision of both the hardware and
the software, providing the mobile platform. A key differentiating factor was the operating system, providing a high level of functionality for what was wanted and omitting unnecessary functions (Palm, 2011).
The strategy of the firm was a narrow focus differentiation based only on the PDA market. The firm had been faced with a high level of competition in later
years as firms such as Sony, and in order to compete, and responding late the focus of the firm has been renewing the palm pilots and innovation in terms of
