This 5 page paper examines two conflicts between staff in a restaurant. The first conflict is examines to consider incidents that lead to the crisis point and the beliefs of the stakeholders and then considers how to resolve the conflict using communication, empathy, consideration of feelings and creative problem solving. The problem that occurred was due to one member of the waiting staff feeling that they were being treated unfairly and receiving the tables with families that had young children. These types of groups, they argued, were the most work, as they expected the most, and would often leave small tips. The conflict resulted in a shouting match between the member of waiting staff and the manager which also impacted on the atmosphere and the member of waiting staff threatened to leave. If we look at the way this scenario developed we can consider this from the beginning, although there was a crisis point, this did not appear out of the blue. The shift that day had not been going well, for a few days there had been a staff shortage as several waiting staff were off sick. This had increased the workload of the remaining waiting staff. While the waiting staff will often like an increase in the number of tables they look after as this increases their earnings, the increase needs to be managed carefully by the host to make sure that the wait staff can cope with the load. The host was fairly new and had been seating several tables at the same time in the same station, so that there was a lot of work. The restaurant had got quieter, but the staff were tired as they had been working hard for the shift and nerves were already frayed. The waiter, we will call Tom was in the section were the larger tables were placed, but large tables were in other sections.
