In todays very diverse workplace, personality clashes may be the most common type of conflict. It is in my workplace. These are very difficult to handle because they are based
on emotional responses to perceptions about another person. They often begin with a difference of opinion but very soon, the parties involved are judging the others motives, abilities, and even
competence. A leader who has a personality clash with one of the employees may immediately decide that if that person is late, it is because they are lazy (Leadership and
Motivation Training, 2010). These types of conflicts often lead to one person or the other leaving the job, in fact, it is estimated that 85 percent of employee dismissals are
the result of personality conflicts (Leadership and Motivation Training, 2010). Conflict in and of itself is neither positive nor negative. The way we choose to deal with it or manage
it will lead to positive or negative results, though. The literature identifies a number of conflict management styles. Completion is one approach and is based on a win-lose philosophy. Each
person is focused on their own goals and interests. Accommodation is an approach where one person puts the needs and interests of the other person above their own. The one
