most interesting points in North American history. The Cuban Missile crisis is typically identified with the problems it caused between the United States and Cuba. In reality this
was a crisis which affected all of North America. Beginning October 22, 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis revolved around the intention of the USSR to install ballistic missile in Cuba.
These missiles were not only capable of hitting U.S. targets, they were fully capable of hitting Canadian targets as well. While the U.S. reaction to this crisis was
swift, however, Canadian reaction occurred at a much slower pace and was reluctantly made largely in response to U.S. requests. A review of the literature surrounding this period reveals
an interesting response by both countries. As Robert F. Kennedy (37) later wrote: "We
saw as never before the meaning and responsibility in the power of the United States, the power of the President, the responsibility we had to people around the globe who
had never heard of us" Canada, of course, had definitely heard of us. Unfortunately,
a significant portion of their actions during this crisis was structured around their resistance to us more so than their fear of the threat being presented by the missiles in
Cuba. Certain facts regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis emerge in all of the literature. When the threat of USSR missiles became eminent
to the U.S., for example, the country immediately installed a naval blockade of Cuba and requested that Canada move her own forces to alert status as well (Mathews). Other
