31, 2007, operated: 52 state prison facilities, three pre-release facilities, three psychiatric facilities, one Mentally Retarded Offender Program (MROP) facility, two medical facilities, 13 transfer facilities, 16 state jail facilities,
four temporary contract capacity facilities and five substance abuse felony punishment (SAFP) facilities (TDCJ 19). Additionally the Texas CID, at this time, operated five expansion cellblock facilities, as
well as a boot camps and work camps within several of these facilities (TDCJ 19). At the end of the 2007 fiscal year, there were "136,666 institutional offenders, 13,808 state
jail offenders, and 3,187 SAFP offenders for a total of 152,661 offenders incarcerated in TDCJ facilities" (TDCJ 19). As the TDCJ operates a large number of facilities, a listing
