not culturally astute. What if a company for example wanted to expand to Bulgaria? What might they find? How would they cope with the different culture? When doing business
overseas there are a myriad of things that one has to consider from appropriate behavior to the communication customs that are inherent in certain countries. Not shaking the hand of
a Japanese businessman can kill a deal, something quickly found out on a Seinfeld episode. When focusing on Bulgaria exclusively, one would have to know just what the
Bulgarian business communication customs are in order to be successful in the region. Whether one works for a large company, is investing in a Bulgarian enterprise or is an entrepreneur,
communications is important. First, it pays to look at a bit of Bulgarian history and current government practice, as that dictates the political climate which is important to doing business
in any nation. The Bulgarian state was formed by the Bulgars, which is a Central Asian Turkic tribe, that would merge with local Slavic
inhabitants during the latter part of the seventh century ("Bulgaria"). Bulgaria would have difficulties with the Byzantine Empire but by the time that the fifteenth century rolled around, the
Ottoman Turks had overrun the place ("Bulgaria"). Bulgaria did become independent once again in 1878 ("Bulgaria"). Yet, by the end of the world wars, it would fall under Soviet
