oldest cultures, China has been undergoing immense social and economic changes over the past generation. It still rigidly adheres to communist ideology, while yet adopting measures to facilitate freer
economic principles. The people are benefiting, but only by default. Economic Factors China is one of the official "big emerging markets" of
the world. "In the next 20 years, China could surpass Japan as the worlds second largest trading nation, and between 2020 and 2030 the Peoples Republic of China could
emerge as the worlds biggest economy" (China Trade). In order to reach this place, China will need to continue to modernize its economy and institute a financial system that
can sustain the needs of business, as well as continue to build a modern infrastructure that can support telecommunications and ground transportation. "The United States should help move China
in the direction of greater economic and personal freedom by adopting a consistent, long-run policy that normalizes trade relations, integrates China into the global trading order" (China Trade). In
2002, per capita GDP was only $4,600, but with a population of 1.28 billion people, China now is the worlds second-largest economy based on purchasing power parity (China). Regardless
of what the US wants to do, Chinas government looks to increased international trade to advance the nations economy. Low labor cost is
one of the features that make China so attractive for foreign investment. As the government focuses on budgets and establishing even rudimentary infrastructure in interior regions, it has not
