This has the effect of setting them up for severe injuries (Lloyd). This data was taken from a study conducted by the Center for Injury Research and Policy at
Nationwide Childrens Hospital in Columbus, Ohio (Lloyd). Another point that is particularly troubling is that football is riskier than other sports as it pertains to concussions. When examining concussions in
regard to all high school sports, the most concussions occur in soccer and football (Lloyd). Many experts believe that athletes should rest after injury. Yet, many do not. It was
reported that 16% of football players would return to the field the same day that they lost consciousness (Lloyd). Even if there is debate about how long a player should
sit on the sidelines, returning on the same day appears to be too short a time span. Guidelines created by an international panel in regard to this very issue say
that players should never go back to the game on the same day that they experienced a concussion (Lloyd). Protocols should be
in place to assure that students do not go back to playing ball soon after a concussion is experienced. In fact, the student should satisfy three conditions before they
are permitted to go back to sports, according to Zasler, Katz and Zafonte (418). Authors explain that the athlete should be asymptomatic at rest, and that they should progress to
non-contact exertion and be asymptomatic there (Zasler, Katz, Zafonte, 418). In other words, athletes should rest for awhile and once they have no symptoms and feel fine they should
