p.20). Here, the author is examining the idea that an individual wants to, and therefore does, increase his or her sense of power. Some see Nietzsches concept as defined
by the following statement: " It means determination to construct the world and the things in it as one desires it to be" ("Postmodern Terms," 2005). In many ways, this
suggests that the society is a social construction, also hinting that God may not be a part of it. Man makes his own destiny. Another concept is called transvaluation. Some
say it means the following: " a reframing that changes the value perspective" ("Postmodern Terms," 2005). To that end, the author writes: "The conditions which one would partly have
to create and partly utilize for their genesis; the presumptive methods and tests by virtue of which a soul should grow up to such an elevation and power as to
feel a con-straint to these tasks ; a transvaluation of values, under the new pressure and hammer of which a conscience should be steeled and a heart trans- formed into
brass, so as to bear the weight of such responsibility" (Nietzsche, p.129). One can see that both terms refer to a change in consciousness of sorts. People see things differently.
Yet, each in its own right describes specific things. The former concept goes to concrete things and structures while the latter goes more to soft and changeable ideas. Both of
